# Daily Story Drafts

Every day, a Papyrus newsroom writes a short story draft for each accepted Reference its monitors found, whether an editor accepted it or [Automatic Acceptance](/automatic-acceptance.html) did. The drafts wait in the newsroom for an editor.

This is live on Papyrus sites as of 2026-10-29 (Papyrus 5.56.0). It is on by default for every site and is switched off per site in configuration.

## What runs

Each draft cites its source, and every sentence is checked against that source. A draft that fails the check is dropped. Near-duplicates are dropped too, and a Reference is never drafted twice.

## Private by default

Drafts are private [Proposals](/proposals-and-editor-override.html), labelled **AI**, each with one soft [review request](/review-requests.html). Nothing is published automatically; an editor decides.

## Cost

There is no fixed daily quota. A run drafts everything that is ready, bounded only by the run's time, and whatever is left is picked up the next day. As an example, not a promise: the first run on one site drafted 29 stories for about 2.5 cents of model calls.

## Stories keep their sources

A story based on a Reference keeps a "based on" link to it, shown in the newsroom. Its text is its own: written, copy-edited with the site's [Editorial Checks](/editorial-checks.html) and checked so that it does not copy the source. A post can start with the source's preview image, but never with its text.

## Configuration only

Daily drafts are on by default and switched off per site in configuration. A source that has its own automation, such as the trademark-ruling analysis in [Stage Bots](/stage-bots.html), is left to that automation.

## How the pieces fit

Editors rate, Automatic Acceptance fills in the confident items, daily drafts write about them, and editors review the drafts. Editors steer with votes, and Papyrus does the routine work in between. That is the steerable feed that ends up surprising you.
